Slavery Again: Why Should I Answer Mr. Green and How!

How often do you get bombarded with innuendoes, loose utterances, vague words, and unrelated text? Well do not fear; just listen to the daily dose of bad mouthing undertaken by a few as they try to outwit themselves into their own mischievous, misinformed, and misguided actions that surfaces as just talk.

Can Dominica go through another era of irresponsible chatter by individuals who live by a hidden motive to make Dominica so unstable that the people will start to really believe them? As a nine year old I remember clearly of shattering sounds of glass windows being damaged by individuals I have yet to learn about after thirty years of its occurrence. As I approach my 38th year on this sojourn I cannot help but to ponder on a silly attempt by individuals, who seem to know better but choose to persist in their rather unfortunate and demeaning stance, to speak to the people of Dominica a message of doom and gloom.

Please Mr. Ron Green the economy of Dominica is very stable; the only claim to your statement that can receive any sort of associated legitimacy is the fact that the current global economic crisis disallows, frustrates, slows, and possible retards the potential of higher economic growth expected at this juncture of our development.

To state publicly that Dominica’s economy is unstable is a clear indication that the dully constituted and elected honorable member for La Plaine must be a resident hider in Dominica who occasionally surfaces from his cocoon to make uninformed, unrealistic, and unwarranted statements that begs the questions of his true motive, his real sense of purpose, and must likely his sanity!

It is an act of idiocy to say that Tourism is at its lowest and to equate tourism to Banana when the obvious fact is that we have and will double the maximum revenue earnings of Banana at its peak year, 1989, the revenue earnings of Tourism in this fiscal cycle of 2008/09. To have the brevity to say publicly that ‘the Fairtrade is just new to the banana business’ is a reflection of the lack of understanding of who the ‘Fairtrade’ is and a further attempt to patronize farmers in Dominica for cheap political capital that provides absolutely no relief, idea, or options to farmers.

Yes it was in the late nineties as a farmer and extension officer that had the opportunity to assess the unsustainable policies of the UWP Government who were the only government in the History of Dominica that have ever taken up an investment strategy that just totally ignored the reality of the day and demonstrated a total lack of foresight in the direction that the global village was moving. I believe that we as a people must learn to creep before we walk; and any leader whether within or without government that gives the impression that any one specific action is the panacea of our long tradition of dependency and lack of preparation to embrace change, is as misleading as the noise reverberating from Mr. Green’s voice box.

Stupidity must be recognized for what it is; to falsely hide behind the veil of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition with a sole purpose of making the Hon. Prime Minister look bad is just a diet of poor taste which will continue to achieve nothing but a very shameful reflection of the Office of the Opposition Leader. The choice to embrace the literal meaning of the word opposition and not recognize the deeper more profound intention of the law to have an alternative set of policies and approach to governance is loss on the current opposition.

I believe that we need to rise above our own self-imposed veil of tortuous arrogance. Honesty is an important character that must be cherished by all and respect and hard work must replace cheap stupid talk. If there is any reason for a call for the likes of Mr. Green who so readily run under the cloak of ‘freedom of expression’, to just shut up and get involved in real country development he will soon learn that he is making a more valuable contribution than to want to stomp every minute on the back of a ruling government.

Please note and be advised, Mr. Green and your Master Edison James, that the negative, demeaning, and stupid approach you employ to oppose Government’s action is not making you look either smart or real. And you are gradually loosing the respect of well meaning individuals who make a conscious and free choice to support your party. It is very important that you understand that as a young professional you worked and earned a comfortable living in Dominica at a time when the country was in a real financial crisis brought about excessive demands for funds to rebuild a hurricane devastated state. And after years of struggle under the then Dame Eugenia leadership you entered politics because she opposed your AIG type bonus demands that when refused created the impetus for you to lash out your venom and use people in pursuit of your lust for power.

Imagine after twenty years on you have yet to change any aspect of your demeaning insidious motive of greed, selfishness, and lack of respect for the law and the rights of the people to choose and work with the government of their choice. Individuals as I must continue to stand up and protect Dominicans of the necessity of goodwill required to progress as a nation. Never in our history have we lacked great ideas, never in our history have we had such access to financial resources to met our capital needs, its been a while in our history since there have been such stable, determined, and generous political will in our leadership to pursue a course of development within a contracting global economic outlook; yet there are some among us who is determined to suppress the last but most essential ingredient our personal responsibility and participation in the process of self sufficiency and nation building.

The Hon. Prime Minister as the dully elected and selected leader of the country must be allow to provide the leadership and political will required to encourage personal responsibility and participation in national development. The stains and chains of our colonial past and enslavement need not rear its ugly head decade after decade. Our coming generations must be taught respect and hard work and be encouraged to work in a spirit of goodwill and peace.

It is so hypocritical to see the ever ready attempt to emulate and reference the USA in its achievements on the political scene yet at home individuals who are given the opportunity to work towards achieving a level of sane and necessary development through collaborative action coordinated by one head, the Prime Minister fail to respect or recognize the very office for which they promise the world to people if they attain it.

People of Dominica must come to recognize that in their quest for higher office the likes of Mr. Green, openly and unfortunately attempt to discourage you from personal participation and frustrate your ability to assume personal responsibility for our beloved country’s development. Their words are enslaving and demeaning to any one who adopts or accepts their message or premise; for me their words are really low and will certainly make us fight internally as a people thereby allowing the energies that would have been directed/engaged otherwise in building, is consumed in breaking down. That’s real slavery if we yield.

So you can go ahead an label us Party hacks, Laborites, Skerritites as you wish; but one thing remains certain, your attempt to destroy the good will by all to work hard towards the development of their country with a sustained and patient resolve to respect the work that the Prime Minister who fights tirelessly every day, does, and by the virtue of his office is required and responsible to do, will not succeed.

Therefore I challenge the likes of the Opposition to stop the hemorrhage; we are at a juncture whereby the concerted efforts of all are a necessary ingredient for development. Fighting with words and negative criticism and mere untruths will accomplish one end….a new ruling group to get the same severe treatment…a never ending barrage of ill will, bad attitude and no progress.

I can see the selfish aim in it all….that is the only means to gain power: divide and conquer! I solemnly say to you people in opposition, allow the democratic process of governance to run its course and if you truly desire to serve all by your desire for High Office start working now or else when you get there you would achieve nothing more but destroy the very country you promise to build.

Wake up and shut up!
