Please check out the new release 'EXPOSURE' a newsletter by the Visual Arts Society of Dominica, VASoD. The paper is an expression of local artistic work in Dominica and will voice concerns, expectations, works, occasions, progress etc. made.
Here is an exept from the front page piece!
"In Dominica, one wonders if there is another Rembrandt, will Michael Angelo resurface, Picasso? Doubting such renaissance has lead to a long painful neglect of a group of individuals whose signature talents are no less in comparism to those famous artists we have grown to appreciate through their work. It is within that thought that artists not only reflect their talents but are divinely commissioned to capture, produce, and store visual imagery for the rest of us who were not fortunate to be present and participate in that special, thrilling or memorable moment."
On December19 2008, the Visual Arts Society of Dominica, VASoD, was officially launched as we came to the end of the Reunion 2008 National Photographic Challenge. The Society will provide a forum for promoting local artists, providing advocacy and representation of artists allowing artists to collaborate on the overall development of their skills and the protection of their copyrights through application of intellectual property rights (IPR) legislation, monitoring its current abuse and ushering new perceptions.
We applaud the Government of Dominica, the Reunion 2008 Committee and its staff for their continuous support throughout the reunion year. Special thanks to Mr. Reginald Severin for his forethought and counsel in the delivery of the NPC, to Mr. Hubert Charles for providing the financial support, to Mrs. Marcella L Menal for her support and to the sturdy guidance provided by the Honourable Loreen Bannis-Roberts.
As we move beyond Reunion 2008 we are grateful to the heavenly Father for the strength to initiate a new chapter in the lives and times of local artists and pray that as new talents emerge the presence and work of our Visual Arts Clubs and the National Society VASoD will be well placed in the naturing, promoting, development and protection of visual arts in Dominica.
As we say, “d eyes have it!”
